It may seem amazing today, but there was a time where allowing players to move up and down on the screen as well as left and right was something of a revelation. After whatever the fuck happened there you get to mission 30, which is an incredibly easy boss and you unlock the ability to team up with other characters, including assholes like glen and Jake, and the game becomes TEN TIMES BETTER DIFFICULTY WISE.The 2.5D beat-'em-up was one of the most beloved genres of the late 80s and early 90s. Even when you manage to disarm him it's best not to try and grab the weapon at all, just get him away from it because the moment he touches that crowbar he will become Jesus Christ again, and watch out because the dude doesn't stay on the ground for long. FUCK THIS BOSS, seriously this one is the worst case offender because when you fight against bosses with a weapon later on, they don't have that invulnerability, you can just kick them and grab their weapon, not with glen tho since he has suddenly gained the strength of the gods and will not take damage even if you throw him one of your special attacks, you have to first redirect one of his attacks and pray he doesn't counter your grapple, and that if said grapple isn't countered, that it actually makes him drop his weapons instead of being glued to his hand. After that torturous event, you fight against glen, fun fact: he has learned to use weapons and is rapidly approaching you with a metal pipe, not so fun fact: he's invulnerable to almost everything. Then comes mission 28 or so, you fight against that bastard Jake again, you're gonna get grappled, YOU ARE GONNA GET GRAPPLED, and you're not gonna grab him shit, you're gonna stay there watching the animation of him grabbing the leg knowing he's gonna do the follow up which will take a quarter of your health and you are gonna stand up, try to grapple him, and get killed. After this the developers just put bullshit on the next 15 or so missions, enemies start countering grapples, grapples don't have invulnerability so you're rarely gonna be able to pull one off, even if you dodge everything well you will get hit, see urban reign enemies are very much like the player, as a matter of fact you can play as some them later on, but you don't know that in the first 30 missions, and you haven't unlocked a lot of options by then, so you're fucked. ![]() The game starts out fine, for the first 5 missions you'll be learning how to manage 4 or so people in a fight, problem comes when recurring enemies start to appear, Jake is a grappler, he is also bullshit to fight against, but you fight him on a 1v1 so it's manageable. But holy shit are the first 30 missions of the game some of the most annoying experience I've ever had in a game. The combat in this game is great, the music is amazing, the aesthetic is really 2000's.
